SCIWAD

SCIWAD

Senior Citizens Welfare Advocacy (SCIWAD) is s non-governmental, Non-political, Non-religious and Non-Profit making organization with a passion to integrating senior citizens into the society.

This is no doubt an uphill task because the mere mention of the word Pensioner, to many, paints a picture of someone who has outlived his usefulness. This is definitely not true as majority of Pensioners still have a lot of things to offer the society especially the youths.

The world over senior citizens (Pensioners) have privileges like free rail and road transportation with a good subsidy on air travels. Medications for senior citizens are highly subsidized while most of their pensions are paid as and when due. We at SCIWAD are trying to make it possible that Rest is actually Sweet after Labour for our senior citizens.

In Nigeria there are six autonomous Pension Boards namely:

(1) Head of Service

(2) Federal Capital Territory

(3) National Universities Commission

(4) Police

(5) Army

(6) Customs, Prisons and Immigration.

It is SCIWADS hope and aspiration that pensioners under the six Boards would come together under the umbrella of SCIWAD for a common cause which is their welfare.

Right now SCIWAD is only working with the Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP) and pockets of other people as individuals.

SCIWAD is about one year old and her activities are well accepted by the Pensioners.

It will be a wonderful experience, if pensioners visited their former places of work at least ones in a year to know the latest developments vis-à-vis government polices.

For the FRCN, we are requesting that on Thursday December 7, 2006 her programme be anchored by your Pensioner Broadcasters. We hear them from your different zones as they talk about life as broadcaster then.

The one week activities will commence December 5, 2006 with a seminar on the Role of Senior Citizens in Re-molding societal values.

We thank you for everything especially your attempt in putting smiles on the faces of Pensioners. You are no doubt our partner-in-progress. We thank you.
